Telling Stories….

through watercolor and song by painter and vocalist Barbara Ween.

Barbara has clearly demonstrated that she can "tell a story". This ability is clear in her audio CD, 'Detour Ahead' and through years of live vocal performances in the valley and beyond with an amazing array of (local and guest) musicians.

Barbara has another passion for story telling in her Portraits and still Life Painting. She thrives in the process of painting. This can be seen in the fluidity and purity of watercolor and the richness of color and detail in her paintings. Stories in paint.

Please stop in for an evening of story telling through music and paint. This double event - exhibition/performance - includes Barbara's Watercolor Exhibition Opening and a Vocal Jazz Performance featuring Barbara on vocals at Click Workspace, 9 1/2 Market Street, Northampton, Mass. on Friday, September 12, from 6 to 8 pm  (part of Northampton's Summer 2025 - Arts Night Out series)

Artist Statement:

Watercolor is my medium because I am intrigued with its fluidity and translucent and transient nature. Recording a look, a moment in watercolor becomes both a challenge and a meditation for me.

My favorite aspect of painting a portrait is watching the face, especially the eyes emerge slowly as brush and watercolor sink into the paper. How can I translate this moment in paint? What shapes and colors to use to tell the story I observe in a look, a feeling to be retold in this painting?

I've been painting portraits for over ten years. I appreciate and continue to study with Ted Nuttall a renowned portrait artist.
